BAAF 2014 – JAMES EDE : Connoisseurship, Collectors and Museums
James Ede gives in this lecture a personal and brief overview of the history of collecting antiquities. In the light of recent criticism of the trade in antiquities and of the private collecting of ancient art, Mr Ede focus on the importance of private collectors to the formation of museums, to the development of archaeology, and to the study of ancient art history.
James Ede is an art dealer and former Chairman of the International Association of Dealers in Ancient Art (IADAA).
